My nose my nose

My nose has been playing up all day today and all day yesterday, it keeps creating thick sticky mucus which runs down the back of my throat and makes me want to throw up :( it's not a cold because it's only one side and it only ever goes down the back of my throat even if my head is tilted slightly forward, it's horrible but I can't blow my nose to get it out it just keeps trickling down to my throat and it is so disgusting, I often choke on it at night when I'm sleeping if it tries to go the wrong way.

What could be causing it I wonder?
